With help from a generous community partner, G.C. Hartman Elementary has joined many schools across the country in bringing a Buddy Bench to their school. Among the goals of the Buddy Bench initiative is to help eliminate loneliness and foster friendships on the playground. According to Elementary Counselor Eric Deeter, the Buddy Bench program began in earnest two years ago when a second grade student in York, Pennsylvania saw one in Germany.  He suggested to his principal that his school bring one to their playground to help lonely students find friends to play with.  Since then, many schools have placed Buddy Benches in their schools.

The Buddy Bench was introduced to G.C. Hartman students on May 14th  with staff modeling appropriate ways to use the bench by acting out short skits. The bench will be installed in the elementary school's playground. For the “buddy bench” story, visit www,buddybench.org. For additional information, please contact Mr. Deeter, Mr. Hauer or Mr. Fetterman

Posing with the bench are students, Zachary Rodgers and Peyton Schauer, Elementary Principal John Fetterman, Elementary Counselor Eric Deeter, and Kindergarten Teacher Dan Hauer.
