Once again, the students and staff of Southern Columbia Area's Career Development Program are coordinating the District's participation in the local Salvation Army's Food Drive. This is the third consecutive year the Career Development Program has spearheaded the drive at Southern Columbia. All food collected will be distributed to families in need who reside within the Southern Columbia Area School District's boundaries or in Shamokin or Mt. Carmel.  The Salvation Army estimates the 2015 Food Drive will assist over 800 families, with more than 2,000 children.
Students, staff, and all others wishing to make a donation can do so by dropping off the following food items at collection sites set up in each school:
  • Instant Potatoes
  • Stove Top Stuffing
  • Cranberries
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Gravy
  • Cake Mixes and Frosting
  • Hams
  • Turkeys
  • Chicken
  • Pasta and Sauce
Monetary donations are also being accepted. According to Salvation Army officials, a $20 donation can feed a family of four. Checks should be made out to the Salvation Army. Monetary donations can be dropped off at any of the District offices or mailed directly to the Salvation Army headquarters at 1300 W. Spruce St., Coal Township, Pa.17866. Food and monetary donations can be dropped off at SCA through Monday, December 11th.
