Southern Columbia Area High School and South Columbia Area Middle School were recently recognized for their efforts in using 2013 Project Tomorrow Speak Up Survey data to help make informed decisions. SCA school leaders used the survey results to help make curriculum and budgeting decisions including the viability of implementing a 1:1 laptop program in the High School and to gauge student interest in creating a Middle School STEM elective course.

As a result of these and other efforts, both schools were named Speak Up Loud and Clear Schools as announced by Project Tomorrow, a national, education nonprofit organization. “I am very excited to announce the top schools in the country that demonstrated their commitment to listening to their stakeholders’ views on education and digital learning,” said Julie Evans, CEO of Project Tomorrow. “The Speak Up Loud and Clear schools have done an excellent job of incorporating the views of students, parents, educators, and administrators in local decision-making. Each year, we strive to make progress in leveraging technology to enhance the educational experience for all involved in our schools across the nation, and this year’s Speak Up Loud and Clear schools prove this goal is possible.” A complete list of Loud and Clear Schools is found by clicking on this link.

All Southern Columbia Area School District students, teachers and administrators will have an opportunity to participate in the 2014 Speak Up Survey. Speak Up surveys designed specifically for parents and other community stakeholders will also be available. The survey is now open and will remain so until December 19, 2014.
