The District, in partnership with the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, is pleased to announce that a Pre-K Counts program will soon be available to Southern Columbia Area School District residents. Pre-K Counts is a free program available for children who are between ages three and five (who are not yet enrolled in kindergarten) or may be at risk of school failure – either because of family income level, language, cultural or special needs issues. Families earning up to 300 percent of the federal poverty level are eligible for their child(ren) to participate in Pre-K Counts. For example, a family of four is eligible if the annual household income is at or below $72,750.The Pre-K Counts program will be located in G.C. Hartman Elementary Center and will operate Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM., beginning in March.
The program is being funded through an Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) grant obtained by the CSIU. Applications for enrollment are now being accepted. For more information, including additional examples of income guidelines, please call 570-523-1155, ext. 2225 or visit
