The Southern Columbia Area School District will be participating in the annual Red Ribbon Campaign during the week of  October 24-28, 2016. Since 1985, Red Ribbon Week has been used as a vehicle for people and communities across the nation to unite and take a visible stand against drugs. At SCA, each grade level will decorate their classroom doors and hallways with messages that demonstrate their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle. According to School Nurse Alexis Spade, the organizer of Southern Columbia Area's campaign, this year's Red Ribbon theme is YOLO (You Only Live Once): Be Drug Free!  According to Nurse Spade, "We will also be having the following Spirit Days throughout the week to create a fun environment while nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug-free youth in our District!:"

Monday, October 24th: Mustache Day (“If you mustache, I’m Drug Free!”)
Tuesday, October 25th: Hat Day (“Put a LID on drugs!”)
Wednesday, October 26th: Sunglasses Day (“Shade out drugs!”)
Thursday, October 27th: Backwards Day (“Turn your back on drugs!”)
Friday, October 28th: Red Day (“Wear as much Red as possible!”)

Red Ribbon Fast Fact: Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don't, yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.
