Southern Columbia Area will be represented by five student-athletes at upcoming PIAA swimming and wrestling championships after each turned in outstanding performances in contests concluded this weekend. Jacob Ryan, a member of Bloomsburg Area High School's swimming team, captured the District 4 Championship in the 100-yard backstroke with a career-best time of 56.14 seconds. Jacob was also a member of Bloomsburg Area's championship 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay teams. He and his relay teammates have now qualified for the PIAA Championships, which will be held March 11-14 at Bucknell University. At this weekend's Northeast Regional Tournament, Kent Lane and Billy Barnes were crowned AA regional champions winning their weight classes, 145 and 152, respectively. They, along wiith Jaret Lane (106) and Shane Casey (113), have qualified for the state championship wrestling tournamnent to be held at the Giant Center in Hershey from March 5-7.
