SCA Awarded Safe Schools and Farm to School Grants

Pennsylvania's Secretary of Education Pedro A. Rivera recently announced that $2.6.million in competitive grants have been awarded to 125 public school entities through the Safe Schools Targeted Grant program. Southern Columbia Area's grant application was among those selected for funding ($13,500) and will allow all School District employees to receive training designed to enhance anti-violence efforts and promote an environment of even greater productivity, safety, and learning.

SCA's Students and Staff Honor Our Nation's Veterans

On the days surrounding, and including Veterans Day 2016, Southern Columbia Area's students paid tribute to the nation's veterans and active military personnel with a variety of classroom and schoolwide activites celebrating the bravery, devotion,and gallantry of the men and women who served, and serve our nation, as a member of the armed forces.

High School Blue Ribbon Designation Now Official!

On November 8th, Southern Columbia Area High School was officially recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School during an awards presentation hosted by the United States Department of Education to honor excellence in education.

Distinguished Alumnus Honored at Student Assembly

Eight alumni of "Southern Area" schools were recently recognized as Distinguished Alumnus in a ceremony held before the District's high school students and staff. Previously, the District recognized a single alumnus as part of its annual high school commencement exercise. Because of the many successes of its graduates, the award was expanded to include more recipients.

Bond Refinancing to Boost Technology Efforts

The District's recent refinancing of a 2011 bond has given it the opportunity to boost its technology infrastructure ensuring that it will be fully capable of supporting Southern Columbia Area's K-12 learning goals for many years to come. The bond refinancing has resulted in a $1.684 million payback to the District which is being reinvested back into its schools to improve learning, and the learning environment, for our students and staff.
