HS and Elementary Students Engage in Unique, Interdisciplinary Lesson

Recently, elementary teacher Mrs. Sue Stone, and secondary teachers Mrs. Casie Baker and Mrs. Lori Shively, created a "monster of a lesson" that afforded their students a meaningful learning experience. Each of the Third grade students in Mrs. Stone’s class were tasked with creating a drawing of an imagined monster and giving their monster an original name.

SCA Welcomes Officer Fahringer

Officer Clay Fahringer has begun service as the District's first School Police Officer after his nomination was reviewed and approved by the Columbia County Court of Common Pleas. The School Police Officer position, created through a successful Safe Schools Grant application, will add another tier of security designed to keep Southern Columbia Area students and staff safe.

Digital Photography Projects Help SCA Think Spring!

Students in Mrs. Casie Baker's Digital Photography class recently displayed their work created as part of the elective course's Animal Photography and Abstract Photography projects. Many of the photos conjured up memories of warmer weather and provided welcome relief from the frigid temperatures gripping the region. The photos shared below were cited by Mrs. Baker as being especially exceptional- and we certainly agree!

County Band Concert is Cancelled

The Columbia County Band Concert originally scheduled for this evening has been cancelled. A make-up date has not yet been determined.

Parents Invited to STEM Open House

The STEM Magnet Program, founded in Fall 2013, allows high-achieving high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to get a head start on a college career in the STEM disciplines. The program offers a choice in two areas of focus: Engineering or Health Sciences. It also gives students interested in math or other sciences the tools needed to be successful in college. While continuing to take classes at their current high school, STEM Magnet participants will be a part of a cohort of students from 11 school districts who take two STEM college courses per semester at Bloomsburg University.

SCA Orators Compete in Prestigious Tournament

On January 10th, Southern Columbia Area High School's Forensics team competed in the 42nd annual Blue, Maroon, and White Tournament, the oldest continuing major high school invitational tournament in Pennsylvania.

SCA Musicans Advance to Regionals

Four Southern Columbia Area High School musicians "placed" at the 2015 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 8 Band Festival held at Troy Area High School this past weekend and will be among a select group of musicians invited to participate in the 2015 Region IV Band Festival.
