Art Show and Gallery Receive Rave Reviews!

The dedication of the District's Art Gallery held on December 17th, was well-attended, with many guests reporting the new gallery provides a "welcoming space" that helps promote an "awareness and appreciation of the arts." Wednesday's Art Show and gallery dedication featured artwork and technology education projects created by the District's K-12 students. The gallery will be updated periodically by rotating in new student work at regular intervals throughout the school year.

Salvation Army Food Drive will Conclude Monday

The students and staff of Southern Columbia Area's Career Development Program are coordinating the District's participation in the local Salvation Army's 2014 Food Drive. This annual event provides food during the holidays to those less fortunate. All food collected will be distributed to families who reside within the Southern Columbia Area School District's boundaries or in Shamokin or Mt. Carmel.

SCA First Grader's Remarkable Toys for Tots Effort is Recognized

Madison Kerstetter, a First Grade G.C. Hartman Elementary student,  was featured in Tuesday's edition of the Shamokin News-Item. Madison was recognized for her efforts in collecting $600 in toys which were donated to the Susquehanna Valley chapter of the U.S.

December's Fresh Food of the Month will Feature Sweet Potatoes

Locally-grown sweet potatoes will be the featured Fresh Food of the Month for December.  The sweet potatoes will be served to all students in grades K through 12 on Thursday, December 18th.

Blanket and Pillow "Cover for Kids" Drive Underway

The Southern Columbia Area High School Student Council is holding a "Covers for Kids Drive" to benefit the patients of the Janet Weis Children's Hospital. The drive will collect blankets and pillows. All donations must be new and in their original packaging. If homemade, they should be made using new material.  To better protect the young patients, you are asked to tie your donation in a plastic bag and keep it away from from dust and pets.

Audit Report Brings Welcomed News

The recently-released audit of the District's finances indicated that Southern Columbia Area will continue to face challenges to operate its schools as "revenue is limited" while "many expenditures are dictated by state and federal requirements"  and cannot be reduced.

Anonymous Tips Program Launched by State

The Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General has launched an anonymous tips program designed to help fight illegal drugs and to protect minors against sexual cybercrimes. 
 
The Bureau of Narcotics Investigation within the Office of Attorney General has set up a tip line that seeks to keep drugs out of the wrong hands and improve the quality of life for citizens.

Two Tiger Wear Sales to Benefit the Football and Basketball Boosters

If you are looking for Southern Columbia-themed gifts this holiday season, two SCA Booster clubs are offering online and on-campus shopping options. The Boys Basketball Booster Club is selling Tiger Apparel through their online store which will be open through December 1st. The Football and Cheerleader Boosters will hold a Tiger Wear Sale on Saturday, December 6th in the lobby of the Charles T. Nesbitt Gymnasium from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
