Pickleball Tournament Proves to be a Student Favorite!

Looking back on the 2014-2015, school year, the annual Pickleball Tournament once again proved to be a tremendously popular activity among the High School's student body.

New Teachers Welcomed; Retirees Thanked for Dedicated Service!

A warm welcome is extended to the following teachers who will be joining Southern Columbia Area's faculty for the 2015-2016, school year: Andrew Meyer, Technology Education; Emily Karas, Family and Consumer Science; Erin Sheedy, Special Education; Aaron Cole, Secondary Math; Janelle Burcicki, Secondary English Language Arts; Theodore Deljanovan, Physical Education; and Brandon Traugh, Secondary Social Studies.

Plans For New Tiger Stadium Entry and Walkway Unveiled

Athletic Director Jim Roth recently unveiled plans for a new entry and walkway area for Tiger Stadium that will not only result in a major improvement to Tiger Stadium but also serve to highlight the history and success of Southern Columbia Area's Football program. The project is being funded entirely through donations and is spearheaded by the SCA Football/Cheer Boosters.

Distinguished Alumnus Announced

Rick Herring, Class of 1978, has been named the Southern Columbia Area School District's 2015 Distinguished Alumnus recipient. After graduating from Southern Columbia Area High School, Rick attended Albright College earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He completed graduate-level work at Fairleigh Dickinson University earning a Master’s in Business Administration in Finance.

SCA Now a Featured SkyCam Site on Eyewitness Weather

Southern Columbia Area recently joined the WeatherBug Schools Network thanks to the efforts of the staff and parents of G.C. Hartman Elementary School, and a generous donation arranged by members of the WBRE/WYOU Eyewitness News Team.
 
G.C. Hartman Principal John Fetterman, his staff, and members of HART, discussed the possibility of installing a WeatherBug Tracking Station at the school as a means to enhance math, science, geography, and technology education for students.

Mock DUI Crash Delivers a Powerful Lesson

Southern Columbia Area's SADD Chapter (Students Against Destructive Decisions), in conjunction with local emergency personnel, staged a mock DUI crash on school grounds, providing the High School's senior and junior students with a powerful, realistic lesson on the dangers of underage drinking and drunk driving.

G.C. Hartman Food Drive a Success!

The recently concluded G.C. Hartman Elementary Center summer food drive proved to be a tremendous success with 867 food items being collected. The drive spearheaded by the school's students and staff will benefit the Food For Friends Food Bank, located at the First United Methodist Church in Catawissa.
