SCA Welcomes Dr. Evans!

SCA extends a warm welcome to Julie Evans, the CEO of Project Tomorrow (www.tomorrow.org), an internationally recognized education nonprofit organization that focuses on improving learning opportunities for student through the effective use of STEM resources.  Dr. Evans will be viisting with Southern Columbia teachers and students involved in national study which seeks to learn whether the use of large print text titles can enhance reading proficiency and enjoyment.

Wellness Initiative Features a "Power Food"

Southern Columbia's Fresh Food of the Month takes a different approach this month featuring a finished product made with potato, wheat and dairy products- pierogies! Students will have the opportunity to taste test two Mrs. T's Pierogies with elementary students also attending an assembly featuring Pierogy Man and the pierogy-making process. This month's featured food will convey the idea that "all things in moderation" can lead to a healthy lifestyle.

College Musicians' Tour Stops at SCA

Shippensburg University's Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band visited with Southern Columbia musicians as part of the University's annual tour that leads nearly 300 SU students and faculty members to perform for local audiences as well as throughout the United States and abroad. The visit was arranged by teachers Mr. Joel Thomas and Mrs.

Mega Force Presentation

This weekend's Mega Force presentations featuring motivational speaker Steve Carrier are not affiliated with the School District. Please note, this weekend's presentations will include faith-based messages and are sponsored by the Catawissa Christian Church.

Authors to Help Teach Resilience

The authors of Courageous Cole: The Life of a Special Needs Dog will visit G.C. Hartman Elementary on March 29, to help teach students the power of perseverance and resilience. Co-authored by the husband and wife team of Steve and Beverly Klinger, Courageous Cole is a story about a dog who was born with a disability.

Mega Force Delivers Powerful Lessons

Steve Carrier will bring his Mega Force program to Southern Columbia Area on Friday, March 22nd to encourage students to make right choices, and to be a 'Dream Maker, not a Dream Breaker!' Steve travels throughout the world and will speak to over half­ a million students this year alone! His program calls for him to demonstrate feats of strength while conveying important life lessons to audience members.
