December's Fresh Food of the Month will Feature Sweet Potatoes

Locally-grown sweet potatoes will be the featured Fresh Food of the Month for December.  The sweet potatoes will be served to all students in grades K through 12 on Thursday, December 18th.

Christmas Tree Pick-Up for Ralpho Township Residents

A  Christmas tree pick up for Ralpho Township residents will be held on Saturday January 10, 2015.  The pick-up is sponsored by Ralpho Township Business Association and donations received from this event will help support the annual scholarship grant awarded to a Ralpho Township graduate. Please have trees located at your curb before 9 AM.  Donations for the pick-up can be visibly attached to the tree or mailed to  RTBA,  PO Box 218, Elysburg PA 17824. Free mulch will be available in the Community Park by the band stand  however you must haul it away.

Art Gallery Dedication and Art Show

The Art Gallery created through the generous donations of Conrad Schuerch and Gail Zambor Schuerch will be dedicated prior to the High School Band and Chorus Concert. Dr. and Mrs. Schuerch will be honored during the ceremony and artwork from the District's K-12 students will be on display. The dedication ceremony will take place at 5:00 PM with the Art Show and gallery open until 7:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served. The Art Gallery is located in the lobby of the Auxiliary Gym and "Old" Gym.

Blanket and Pillow "Cover for Kids" Drive Underway

The Southern Columbia Area High School Student Council is holding a "Covers for Kids Drive" to benefit the patients of the Janet Weis Children's Hospital. The drive will collect blankets and pillows. All donations must be new and in their original packaging. If homemade, they should be made using new material.  To better protect the young patients, you are asked to tie your donation in a plastic bag and keep it away from from dust and pets.

Cookies and Milk with Santa

The Class of 2018 will host Cookies and Milk with Santa on Saturday, December 13th, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. This fun event is open to all children living in the District and surrounding areas and will include cookies, milk, games, movies, crafts, prizes, and visits with Santa!  Cost is $5 per child with parents and children age 2 and younger admitted for free.  The event will be held in the Charles T. Nesbitt Gymnasium (new gym).

Audit Report Brings Welcomed News

The recently-released audit of the District's finances indicated that Southern Columbia Area will continue to face challenges to operate its schools as "revenue is limited" while "many expenditures are dictated by state and federal requirements"  and cannot be reduced.

Anonymous Tips Program Launched by State

The Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General has launched an anonymous tips program designed to help fight illegal drugs and to protect minors against sexual cybercrimes. 
 
The Bureau of Narcotics Investigation within the Office of Attorney General has set up a tip line that seeks to keep drugs out of the wrong hands and improve the quality of life for citizens.

The annual reorganization meeting of the Board of Education will take place this evening at 7:00 PM. The meeting will be held in Room 306 of the Columbia-Montour AVTS located at 5050 Sweppenheiser Drive, Bloomsburg, Pa.
