Due to wintry weather conditions, tonight's Encore presentation has been postponed until Sunday evening at 7:00 PM. Tickets purchased for this evening's show will be honored Sunday evening.

Ecology Students Engaged in Unique Project

The Ecology students of Ms. Kristen Vitkauskas are engaged in a unique ecosystem/agriculture project in which they are raising chickens that will make the interior courtyard of the High School/Middle School their home. The chickens will be free-range chickens meaning they will roam freely outdoors on a pasture (the courtyard) where they can forage for their natural diet, which includes seeds, green plants, insects, and worms.

π Day Celebrated at SCA

On Friday March 13th, in honor of Pi Day, the Third Grade Math students of  Mrs. Erin Spotts, joined with Miss Jen Stine's High School Geometry students, to engage in a collaborative exploration of the number Pi. According to Ms. Stine, "Pi Day is an unofficial holiday that celebrates the mathematical constant pi (π).

Alumni News: Cynthia Adams Wins National Title!

This past weekend Cynthia Adams, a 2011 graduate and member of the track team who went on to Lebanon Valley College to pursue a doctoral degree in Physical Therapy, won the NCAA Division III National Championship in the indoor 800 meter run, winning by nearly 2 seconds in a time of 2 minutes 8.81 seconds.  The national meet was held at the JDL Fast Track in North Carolina.  It was the fifth fastest time in NCAA Division III history and capped a career that included 3 All-American honors, 12 MAC championships; 8 of those in the 800 meter run. <

G.C. Hartman Students Raise Funds to Fight Cancer

G.C. Hartman Elementary recently took part in the fundraising campaign, "Pasta for Pennies," to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Presented by Olive Garden, "Pasta for Pennies" is a service learning, character education, and philanthropy program that gives students a unique experience by making a difference through teamwork.  Elementary Principal John Fetterman offered a "sincere thank you" to all who contributed to this worthy cause.

Students Shine at Region Orchestra Festival. Tony Rodriguez Named All-State Musician!

Congratulations are extended to Tony Rodriguez and Olivia Bodner whose performances at the 2015 Central Region Orchestra festival earned rave reviews. Tony placed 2nd Oboe and Olivia placed 3rd on Flute.
Tony also earned the distinction of being named to the All-State Wind Ensemble.

Middle School Spring Pictures

Spring pictures will be taken of all Middle School Students today.   All K-12 staff that have not yet been photographed for a LifeTouch ID badge should have their photos taken on Friday morning between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

The Southern Columbia Area School District will be participating in the 2015 Speak Up Survey.  Speak Up, a national online research project facilitated by Project Tomorrow, gives individuals the opportunity to share their viewpoints about key educational issues, particularly 21st Century education and technology. Each year, findings are summarized and shared with national and state policy makers.Learn More
