Buddy Bench Initiative Adopted by G.C. Hartman Elementary School

With help from a generous community partner, G.C. Hartman Elementary has joined many schools across the country in bringing a Buddy Bench to their school. Among the goals of the Buddy Bench initiative is to help eliminate loneliness and foster friendships on the playground.

Food Drive Will Conclude Today

During week of May 18-22, G.C. Hartman will be conducting an end-of-year food drive to benefit the “Food For Friends Food Bank” located in Catawissa.  This food bank is sponsored by churches in the Southern Columbia Area School District and provides food to families throughout the entire district.  Requested items include: Boxed pastas, Macaroni & cheese, Peanut Butter, Canned Tuna. On Thursday, May 7th, G.C. Hartman's First Grade students will be participating in an all-day, outdoor classroom experience emphasizing nature studies on the school’s nearby nature trail .

First Grade Students to Participate in Outdoor Classroom Experience

On Thursday, May 7th, G.C. Hartman's First Grade students will be participating in an all-day, outdoor classroom experience emphasizing nature studies on the school’s nearby nature trail .  "The day’s activities will bring an appreciation and better understanding of natural habitats and its inhabitants," stated Michele Richards, President of Pennsylvania Master Naturalist, a non-profit group which is coordinating the day's actvities.

G.C. Hartman Staff Inspire Elementary Students for PSSA Success!

While taking tests is low on the list of "fun things to do for students," G.C. Hartman students undoubtedly look forward to the arrival of  the annual PSSA-testing season since it also marks the return of the school's annual PSSA Idol Contest!  During this fun-filled event, SCA adminstrators, teachers, and staff perform songs, dance routines, and skits which encourage students to give their best effort in the English Language Arts, Science, and Math assessments.
