High School Receives National Recognition

Congratulations to Principal Jim Becker and his High School staff for achieving national ranking in U.S. News and World Report's Best High School's report. Nationwide, 19,411 schools were eligible to be included in the 2014 Best High schools rankings.

Appointments for Sports Physicals Now Being Scheduled

Appointments for 2014-2015, sports physicals are now being scheduled. Physicals are by appointment only and will be held on Friday, June 6th from 3:45 until 8:00 PM in the High School training room.  Athletic Trainer Katie Fisher has created a Google form which will allow for online scheduling. Parents can also schedule an appointment by calling Mrs. Fisher at (570) 356-3529 or by e-mailing her at kfisher@scasd.us.

The True Facts About College Recruiting

On Monday, April 21st, the Southern Columbia Area Athletic Department will present a 60-minute workshop entitled "The Realities of College Recruiting." It will be presented by Jack Renkens, a former college coach and recruiting expert. The program is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Southern Columbia Area High School Auditorium beginning at 7:00 PM.

Computer Fair Contestants Garner Awards

Congratulations are extended to sophomores Aiyona Hayman, Francesca Schu, and Amara Nazario for their first place finish in the Digital Movie category at the Regional Computer Fair hosted by the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit. They will now move on to the state competition at Dickenson College. According to Bill Herald, CSIU’s Technical Support and SQA manager, computer fairs take place in each intermediate unit in the state.

Annual Volleyball Tournament a Success!

Recently, the High School Physical Education Department held its much-anticipated Second Annual Volleyball Tournament. Nine teams, with rosters filled by students in grades nine through twelve, participated in the fun event. 

Swimmers Capture Bronze Medal

Jacob Ryan, swimming for Bloomsburg Area High School, was a member of the 200 Yard Medley Relay team which captured the bronze medal in this year's Class AA Swimming and Diving Championships. Jacob was also a member of the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team which finished sixth in the state. The Southern swimmer also made his mark in individual competition, finishing 30th in the 100 Yard Backstroke preliminaries. Congratulations to Jacob and his BAHS teammates, for their fine showing at States!

Food of the Month Initiative Off to a Great Start!

As part of an initiative to promote wellness and Farm to School partnerships, Southern Columbia Area High School and Middle School students will have access to locally grown food, served once a month at lunchtime. The first  Food of the Month Day was held on Wednesday, March 12th and proved to be a hit with the students.

Southern Swimmer Headed to States

Later this week the 2013-2014 PIAA Swimming and Diving Championships will get underway. This event is noteworthy to Southern Columbia Area because one of its own, High School junior Jacob Ryan, will be among those student-athletes who have earned a trip to the swimming and diving championships. Through a cooperative agreement with the Bloomsburg Area School District, Jacob has competed throughout the winter sports season as a member of the Bloomsburg Area H.S. Boys Varsity Swimming Team.

Wrestlers Earn Trip to States

Congratulations are extended to Kent Lane (138), Todd Lane (120) and Blake Marks (152) who are headed to the Giant Center in Hershey to compete in this year's PIAA Class AA State Wrestling Championship.  The three student-athletes have enjoyed successful seasons winning a combined 91 out of 101 matches heading into the championships. We wish the boys good luck and continued success at states! The first matches begin Thursday, March 6th at 9:00 AM and continue into Saturday night.
