Food of the Month Initiative Off to a Great Start!

As part of an initiative to promote wellness and Farm to School partnerships, Southern Columbia Area High School and Middle School students will have access to locally grown food, served once a month at lunchtime. The first  Food of the Month Day was held on Wednesday, March 12th and proved to be a hit with the students.

Southern Swimmer Headed to States

Later this week the 2013-2014 PIAA Swimming and Diving Championships will get underway. This event is noteworthy to Southern Columbia Area because one of its own, High School junior Jacob Ryan, will be among those student-athletes who have earned a trip to the swimming and diving championships. Through a cooperative agreement with the Bloomsburg Area School District, Jacob has competed throughout the winter sports season as a member of the Bloomsburg Area H.S. Boys Varsity Swimming Team.

Wrestlers Earn Trip to States

Congratulations are extended to Kent Lane (138), Todd Lane (120) and Blake Marks (152) who are headed to the Giant Center in Hershey to compete in this year's PIAA Class AA State Wrestling Championship.  The three student-athletes have enjoyed successful seasons winning a combined 91 out of 101 matches heading into the championships. We wish the boys good luck and continued success at states! The first matches begin Thursday, March 6th at 9:00 AM and continue into Saturday night.

Senior Night for Boys Basketball

The Varsity Boys Basketball team will take on South Williamsport H. S. in the Charles T. Nesbitt Gymnasium this evening. A win will earn the Tigers a District playoff slot. Come on out and support the boys!  J.V. action begins at 6:00 PM. In between the J.V. and Varsity games (at approximately 7:15 PM) senior SCA players will be recognized during the annual Senior Night Ceremony.

Southern Students to be Featured on WVIA-TV

Emily Vitkauskas, Class of 2014 and Tony Rodriguez, Class of 2015 will be featured on WVIA-TV's Artist of the Week program during the Week of January 26-February 1st. The show is designed to call attention to high school students who have excelled in the study of the arts. You can view the talented students and their work by tuning in to WVIA-TV next week or by visiting the Artist of the Week website.

Applications for BU's STEM Program Now Being Accepted

Southern Columbia Area High School students who will be Juniors during the 2014-2015, school year will have an opportunity to participate in Bloomsburg University’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Magnet Program.
