The January 15, 2001 Board Meeting of the Southern Columbia Area School District Board of Directors convened in the High School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m., with President Craig Roadarmel in charge of the meeting.

 

         Pledge of Allegiance was said by all.

 

         President Roadarmel welcomed everyone followed by a roll call of Board Members:

ANNOUNCEMENT

An Executive Session was held prior to tonight’s meeting to discuss personnel issues and tax appeals.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Dr. Wilcox gave a brief address and welcome to the 2000 SCA Football Team and coaches.  In recognizing the team’s excellence, he stated they had “…demonstrated hard work, discipline, excitement, and character.”  Mr. Sharrow congratulated the team, managers, coaches, and fans.  Head Coach Jim Roth thanked the board for inviting them this evening for this recognition.  He then read the list of team members on the Academic Honors List, Central Susquehanna Conference All-Stars, All-Anthracite Team members, and All State honors.  Mrs. Atherton stated the board was very proud of Coach Roth and the team.  President Roadarmel congratulated the staff and team for their 10th consecutive District IV Title and their multiple appearances in the state title game.  He also spoke to a letter to the Press-Enterprise commending the team for their dignity and class.

 

Mr. Springer’s budget update report will be postponed until the February meeting.

 

Policy Committee rescheduled their standing meeting date from the 1st Wednesday at 6pm to the 3rd Wednesday at 6pm.

MINUTES – MINUTES AND INVOICES

            On a motion by Bittner and second by Meyer, the Minutes of 11/13/00, 11/20/00, 12/4/00 Reorganization Meeting, and 12/4/00 Regular Meeting were approved.  Motion carried by unanimous affirmative voice vote.

 

            On a motion by Yeager and second by Atherton, the General Fund Invoices in the amount of $1,919,019.39, the 1998 Bond Fund Invoices in the amount of $16,936.44, and the Capital Reserve Fund Invoices in the amount of $249,360.74 were approved.  Motion carried by unanimous affirmative voice vote.

 

MINUTES – FISCAL

            On a motion by Berger and second by Bittner, budgetary transfers in the 2000-01 budget to ensure proper accounting (Exhibit a) were approved.  Motion carried by unanimous affirmative voice vote.

 

            On a motion by Meyer and second by Berger, Change Order #3 for the High School Reroofing Project extending the completion date to December 25, 2000 with no change in the contract price, was approved.  Motion carried by unanimous affirmative voice vote.

 

            On a motion by Meyer and second by Berger, an increase in municipal tax collector compensation to $2.00 per bill beginning July 1, 2002 and maintaining the compensation for Per Capita and Occupational Assessment additions at $5.00 per bill, was approved.  Motion carried by unanimous affirmative voice vote.

 

MINUTES – PERSONNEL

            On a motion by Yeager and second by Kreischer, employment of Andrew Mills for the position of Assistant Baseball Coach for the 2000-01 school year, salary $1968 (15.5 pts.), was approved.  Motion carried by unanimous affirmative voice vote.

 

MINUTES – POLICY AND PROGRAMS

            On a motion by Atherton and second by Bittner, the Band & Chorus trip to attend and participate in the Classic Music Festival in Charleston, South Carolina, April 27 – 30, 2001 (at no cost to the district – teachers and parents to chaperone), was approved.  Motion carried by unanimous affirmative voice vote.

 

            On a motion by Bittner and second by Meyer, the Middle School course offerings for the 2001-02 school year (Exhibit C), were approved.  Motion carried by unanimous affirmative voice vote.

 

            On a motion by Meyer and second by Yeager, the High School course offerings for the 2001-02 school year (Exhibit D), were approved.  Motion carried by unanimous affirmative voice vote.
