            The January 10, 2000 Board Meeting of the Southern Columbia Area School District Board of Directors convened in the District Office Board Room with President Craig Roadarmel in charge of the meeting.

 

            Pledge of Allegiance was said by all.

 

            President Roadarmel welcomed everyone followed by a roll call of Board Members:

Dr. Steve Wilcox, Superintendent; Joseph Springer, Business Manager; Richard J. Roberts, Jr., Solicitor; Roy Clippinger, David Becker, Pat Shultz, Administrators; SH Student Council President Leigh Ann Yocum; and district residents.

 

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

            Dr. Wilcox introduced LeighAnn Yocum, High School Student Council President who reported on Student Council activities since October:  1.)  trick or treating;  2.) children’s book drive;  3.) canned food drive;  4.)  Senior class pizza party w/proceeds donated to area food banks;  and 5.) upcoming Valentine’s activities.

 

            Jean Atherton and Dr. Francis Bobek presented information on Student Physical Examination guidelines as recommended by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

 

            Joe Springer updated the Board on the high school renovation project.  Mr. Porter questioned the adequacy of the cafeteria seating area in relation to the size of the scatter system serving area.  Mr. Roadarmel and Dr. Wilcox responded.

 

            Roy Clippinger presented information on the District’s pupil assessment plan and recent test results.

 

At 9:10 p.m., President Roadarmel directed a 10-minute break, followed by roll call of Board Members.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT (cont’d)

Dr. Wilcox reviewed seminars/meetings available to school board members.  Mr. Becker reviewed a draft of the Grades 5-8 Course Description booklet, and Dr. Wilcox reviewed a draft of the Grades 9-12 Course Description booklet.  Dr. Wilcox also updated the board on the Wonderview Agreement.

MINUTES – POLICY AND PROGRAMS

            On a motion by Yeager and second by Atherton, French Class trip to New York City to attend the Broadway production of Les Miserables, March 15, 2000 (no cost to the district; teacher and parents to chaperone), was approved.  Motion carried by unanimous affirmative voice vote.

 

            Remaining items, discussion only and will be voted on next Monday.
