dr seuss cake winners

Congratulations to Eli Politza for winning the Read Across America cake competition! In Elementary Library, students were encouraged to make Dr. Seuss a birthday cake to celebrate his birthday. The cakes had to be made using recyclable materials or craft products - no real food was permitted in the contest. Eli did a phenomenal job paying strong attention to details of The Lorax, while also making his cake very colorful and fun. His cake may just have to become a new shelf sitter in our library. Our Librarian, Mrs. Kane-Gilger, took Eli's cake to Kim's Confectionary Creations in Catawissa where Kim Deska, the baker and cake decorator, brought his cake to life! She made a delicious confetti cake with vanilla buttercream icing, and even used Eli's handwriting in the design. Eli's cake is on the right, and Kim's cake is on the left. We are so grateful for her talent and creativity. Eli's class was so thrilled for him and they enjoyed eating the cake he designed. You can find Kim on Facebook under Kim's Confectionary Creations. WAY TO GO, ELI!
