Southern Columbia junior Declan McGinley finished 6th in the statewide “Voice of Democracy” speech/essay competition, sponsored locally by VFW Post 8306, Catawissa.
Declan competed against winners from 23 VFW Districts across Pennsylvania, with 193 VFW Posts and 1,760 total submissions considered. He received a $1,000 award, a commemorative jacket and backpack, and a tour of the Gettysburg Battleground.
This year’s theme was: “How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”
