BACKPACKS/ PURSES/HANDBAGS/ GYM BAGS:
Backpacks and other large bags are not permitted in Southern Columbia Area Middle/High School buildings.
Backpacks brought to school will be placed in students’ lockers and picked up ONLY at the time of dismissal.
Gym clothes should be carried in a clear plastic bag.
Student athletes in possession of athletic bags must enter the school building through the gymnasium entrance doors and place bag inside the mat room.
Only small purses and handbags allowed. Approximately the size of a hand with or without a handle or strap. No Larger than 4.5” x 6.5”.
Any backpacks, purses and handbags out of compliance will be confiscated and taken to an administrator’s office. Students will be able to pick up their items after school.
The procedure for lunchboxes is the same as before. Students will put their lunchboxes in their locker and will pick it up at their assigned lunch time. When lunch is over, lunchboxes will be returned to the locker and other needed supplies can be taken out.
With the students bringing their backpacks to school and placing them in their locker, they are going to have to manage their time better and get from class to class with carrying their supplies.
I know changing our bag policy will be difficult, but kids are very good at adjusting to change.
