Mrs. Faust’s First Graders painted eggs and made Bunny Bags today!
Mr. Rooney's class took a trip to the P-Nut Bowl in Bloomsburg today. They gave the class special pricing and free shoe rentals. The kids had a blast. They then went and ate at Applebee’s in Bloomsburg for lunch. Students were able to use Book-It’s to get free kids meals.
Mrs. Sharrow's Kindergarten class was doing math with jellybeans and writing stories in their kid writing journals earlier this week.

SCA Woodshop students are working on a community service project for the Dwell Orphan Care Center in Bloomsburg. They are building a bookshelf for the kids, who will have a place to store their books.

Mrs. Zysset’s Family and Consumer Science class explored baking recipes this week. Seventh graders worked together to make festive cookies in celebration of the holiday break. The cookie lab was a two day project that allowed students to be rewarded in a sweet way!

Students in Mrs. Becker's classes are using the skills they have acquired throughout the year in Office Applications to create all the necessary documents and files needed to start-up and run a business. Students create the hypothetical business and use Word, Publisher, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Canva to develop business files like a letterhead, business card, payroll spreadsheet, advertisements, invoices, customer databases and more. This project will take up most of the last marking period.

The following students were chosen by fifth grade staff at Southern Columbia Middle School as March SoCo Stars of the Month. These students were chosen because they have displayed self-control, tolerance, academic integrity, and resilience within the school setting. Congratulations to each student and their families!

Middle school enrichment students (Gifted) are working on their mock trial project. In this project, the students are getting a role in the “trial process”; then, they will present it as an actual trial leaving them to gain knowledge in the court of law. The students seen in the picture and their roles are Emrie Bloom (sitting) as a juror and Mya Daubert (crouching) as a witness.

Students in Mrs. Nestico's 7th grade ELA class recently read the novel Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry and watched Remember the Titans. They compared the progress made in America over the two time periods and discussed characters that stood up for others and made a difference. Students were then asked to write about 10 ways in which they could make a difference in the world today.

9th and 10th grade students are starting to work on their career essays as part of their Graduation Project. The 9th graders are writing about three potential career paths they might want to take. 10th grade will only be writing about one career in an effort to narrow down their decisions.

On April 8, 2022, Stephanie Lynch, a representative from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, met with 11th and 12th grade students in Mrs. Schwalm's class. The topic of discussion was transferable and soft skills as they relate to employment. She also discussed the opportunities and resources available at Career Link.

This week the G. C. Hartman Elementary school has been collecting boxes of cereal for the cereal drive. These boxes will go to both the Catawissa and Elysburg food pantries. The goal for this year is to donate as many or more as last year. The drive ends April 12th and already over 100 boxes have been collected.

The lunch today was roast turkey, homemade stuffing (elementary students enjoyed mashed potatoes), homemade gravy, corn, fruit, a buttered dinner roll, and a milk.

Miss Winter, who is currently student teaching in Ms. Habowski's 2nd-grade class, is doing a math unit on geometry. She did an interactive lesson where the students used clay to build 3-dimensional shapes. She then used the shapes built by the students to teach them about faces and vertices of each 3-D shape.
