Criminal Justice and Business Law students recently attended Law Day at the Northumberland County Courthouse. Judge Garrigan welcomed the students of Southern Columbia and spoke with them about the legal system. Students also participated in a tour of the records office to learn more about court documentation and procedures.
Southern Columbia Area School District is proud to recognize Rowen Humphrey (far right) as a recipient of a Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference Scholarship. Rowen was honored alongside other outstanding student‑athletes from across the conference for dedication and excellence both in athletics and academics.

Students in Anatomy designed and played their own board games to model the pathways of the circulatory and respiratory systems. They used creativity and collaboration to demonstrate their understanding. This hands‑on formative project turned complex anatomy into an engaging and interactive learning experience. 🎲🫀💨

Mrs. Becker's Office Applications students attended Flavorful Food Truck Friday at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds on Friday, April 24th.
Students are creating their own food trucks in class, and this trip allowed them to spend the afternoon outside exploring the various food trucks and sampling their food. Students in the Childcare & Education class within the Education and Childcare CTE programs participated in learning beyond the classroom during a visit to the Danville Child Development Center today. During the visit, students viewed a presentation from the program director that explained the ins and outs of operating a childcare center. Students also toured the facility and had the opportunity to observe and interact with children of various age groups.
Students from Ms. Zysset’s class visited Mrs. Sharrow’s kindergarten class to make Earth Day headbands together. The classes meet once a month to learn from one another and build meaningful connections across grade levels. This visit was a great example of kids helping kids learn in a fun and engaging way. 🌱🌍🎨
HS Art Club spent Earth Day at Rohrbach’s Farm, painting interactive props for the children’s garden. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to share their creativity beyond the school walls. Great job to everyone involved! 🌍🌱🎨
Southern Columbia is proud to announce that Alasia Gaines has been selected as a 2026 Journey Bank Teen Star Musical Competition finalist. Alasia will return to the Teen Star stage once again, continuing to represent Southern Columbia with talent and professionalism as a wonderful ambassador for the program.
The Teen Star finale will take place this Sunday, April 26, at 2:00 pm at the Haas Center for the Arts on the campus of Commonwealth University Bloomsburg. Community members, families, and students are encouraged to attend and cheer on our finalist.
Tickets are available for $5 in advance at any Journey Bank branch office and for $7 at the door on the day of the show. All ticket proceeds are donated directly to the music departments at the finalists’ high schools, so attendance supports both our students and our arts programs. 🎶

Our International Cooking class recently partnered with 6th grade Social Studies for a meaningful cross‑curricular, cross‑grade learning experience. Students prepared Egyptian dip and flatbread, bringing ancient civilizations to life through food and culture. This hands-on activity gave students a chance to explore global traditions, apply classroom learning in a creative way, and connect with younger classmates.

Mr. Deljanovan’s Adventure Sports class visited Three Ponds Golf Course this week for an instructional session with local golf legend Jonathan Clark. Students were highly engaged as Mr. Clark provided hands-on instruction in golf etiquette, proper grip, and effective striking techniques.

This week, 32 FBLA students attended the State Leadership Conference in Hershey. Individuals and the chapter received multiple awards at the SLC.

Additionally, Chase Compton won 5th place out of the entire state for his accumulation of service hours through the Big 33 program .
Furthermore, eight students were accepted into the Business Honor Society this year. To receive this recognition, students must submit a resume, transcript, and an application. Congratulations to Isabelle Baylor, Chase Compton, Madison Kerstetter, Aidyn McHale, Vivien Miller, Sarah Martin, and Karlene Wiehe, and Maddison Yost.
Four students completed Business Achievement Awards this year, which are online courses about leadership. Congratulations Madi Kerstetter, Aidyn McHale, Vivien Miller, and Karlene Wiehe.

Alasia Gaines and Hailey Gallup were selected as WVIA Artists of the Week for the spring filming session. Yesterday, they were professionally filmed at the WVIA studio in Pittston, where they participated in interviews and showcased five pieces of their original artwork. Their work will be featured in the final videos, which are expected to be released on WVIA’s website sometime in June. Stay tuned!
