On Thursday, six juniors from Southern Columbia High School volunteered their time to help the Elysburg Food Pantry with the distribution of Christmas and New Year food baskets and gift bags. Their willingness to serve and support our community truly made a difference.

We are proud of our students for representing Southern Columbia with kindness and generosity. A heartfelt thank you as well to the Elysburg Food Pantry and the many community partners who work year-round to support families in need. This is a great example of our students giving back and making a positive impact beyond the classroom.

Each student in our Ag classes had the opportunity to choose their own greenery pieces. They then constructed a beautiful wreath to take home for Christmas. It was a fun and festive way to showcase creativity and celebrate the season! πŸŽ„

Ag II students built a cardboard barn from scratch, complete with holiday lights and stockings for extra festivity, and named it Leroy’s Lodge. This is the cozy new home for their class hamster. Hands-on learning never looked so bright and cheerful! πŸΉπŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎπŸŽ„

Twelve years ago, we launched the Covers for Kids Drive to collect blankets and Squishmallows for patients at Janet Weis Children’s Hospital. This year, we collected 200 items, bringing our total to more than 1,700 over the past 12 years! Our students, school, and community continue to show just how generous and caring they are.
Happy Holidays! To celebrate a job well done, Student Council members enjoyed a special treat: Incredible Popcorn Ice Cream.

Last week, 30 of our high school students gave back to the community by volunteering at the Shamokin Salvation Army. They helped count kettles, unload toy and food deliveries, pack items, and organize toy bags for distribution.

Thanks to their hard work and dedication, hundreds of families will enjoy a brighter Christmas with presents under their trees and food on their tables. We are incredibly grateful for their efforts in lightening the Salvation Army’s workload during this busy season. Not only did they accomplish a tremendous amount, but they did so with enthusiasm and positivity.

The Salvation Army extends its thanks to SCA High School for the opportunity to work with such amazing young people. 🎁

Advisor of the Class of 2027, Mrs. Andrews, invited Mrs. Roulin's High School Art Club to paint the cafeteria windows in preparation for the Snowball fundraiser held last Friday.

Senior members did an outstanding job, transforming the windows from a clean slate into vibrant works of art within a single school day. Their creativity gave staff and students the chance to witness their talents firsthand and added a festive touch to the event. β›„

On Friday, the Junior Class hosted a Snowball Dance for the 3rd and 4th graders. The juniors held this event to raise money, as they are the class responsible for hosting prom this year. Students from the junior class helped make this event possible by assisting with handing out food, playing games, and making sure everything went smoothly. Thanks to everyone who came to this event or donated their time and items to make it possible. ❄️

Today, we had the privilege of welcoming Chris Herren to our high school auditorium for a powerful presentation on addiction and recovery. Chris shared his personal story with honesty and courage, inspiring our students to think carefully about their choices and the impact those choices can have on their lives.

We are grateful to Journey Bank for sponsoring this event and to Chris for delivering such an impactful message.

We also want to thank our counseling team for being available to support anyone who needed to process today’s presentation.

Together, we remain committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where every student feels empowered to make positive choices. πŸ’›πŸ–€

If you would like to learn more about Chris Herren’s mission, search his name on YouTube to find inspiring videos and resources.

Southern Columbia offers students a Child Development class where they explore how children grow and learn, focusing on key stages of development, influential factors, and the role of family and community. Students in Mrs. Zysset’s class recently gained hands-on experience by working with students in Miss Hunter’s and Mrs. Madden’s classrooms. Child Development students assisted elementary students with math problems, fun art projects, and reading books.

The Southern Columbia High School Student Council will be hosting its 12th Annual Blanket and Squishmallow Drive during the holiday season to benefit patients at the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital and other local charities. All blankets and Squishmallows, whether purchased or handmade, must be brand new. To help protect the recipients, please place your donation in a plastic bag and keep it free from dust and debris.

Donations can be dropped off in Miss Jen Stine’s classroom or in the High School Office beginning Tuesday, November 25th. The drive will conclude on Tuesday, December 16th, and donations will be delivered on the 17th. This timeline allows the Student Council to sort, organize, and prepare all items for delivery.

This marks the 12th year of our drive, and thanks to the generosity of our school community, we have donated over 1,500 blankets to date. Our Student Council hopes you will support this year’s effort and help brighten the holidays for those in need. If you would like to participate but are not local or cannot drop off a donation, please consider contributing through our Amazon Wishlist:
