Students in Mrs. Trometter’s and Mr. Deljanovan’s Gym classes have been enjoying an exciting and competitive unit in their physical education class—Pickleball! The fast-paced sport, which combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, has become a hit among students. With Pickleball courts set up in the gym, students have been bonding over intense matches and getting active in a fun, engaging way. Pickleball’s popularity is growing, and it’s clear that our PE classes are embracing this game with open arms. All high school students are eligible to compete in the upcoming Pickleball tournament, but the deadline to sign up is tomorrow. Stay tuned for the results of this competition. Students in Mrs. Becker's Office Applications class recently built a "Lucky Charms Database" to store information about the types of charms found in a bag of Lucky Charms cereal. They used Microsoft Access to set up and enter data in a database, query that data, and summarize their findings. Some of the characteristics students recorded included the shape of the charm, its primary and secondary color, size, quantity in bag and taste. Students then enjoyed a St. Patrick's Day snack at the end of class.🍀

At G.C. Hartman Elementary, Read Across America Week is one of the most exciting and anticipated events of the school year. Each March, the school celebrates reading with a week full of activities designed to inspire students and foster a love for books. The event aligns with Dr. Seuss's birthday, as it’s held during the first week of March. Local community members and high school students volunteer to read stories to the students, allowing them to experience the joy of hearing stories from different voices. It's a week that strengthens the bond between students, teachers, and the community, all while celebrating the magical world of books! Contributor: Karleigh Sommers, Journalism Staff Member

Due to an ordering error on my part, tomorrow's Crunchy Tacos will now be Soft Tacos. Students will still receive two tacos, but the shell will be a flour tortilla rather than an corn taco shell. My apologies for the error and change of plans.

The Southern Columbia Varsity Club will be holding a bake sale for Middle School and High School students on Tuesday, March 4, in front of the cafeteria.  All proceeds from the bake sale will benefit the family of SCA Class of 2014 student athlete, Josh Tripp. While in college, Josh participated in a concussion research study. During a recent MRI in Indiana as part of the study, radiologists discovered a concerning abnormality. Further testing confirmed that Josh has a brain tumor. He underwent surgery to remove as much of it as possible, but pathology has determined it is cancerous. As he and his wife, Lauren, navigate this challenging time, they will face significant medical bills and unexpected expenses, and we hope that our efforts will help them in their time of need.
