Grayson Reck continues his strong performance at the PIAA District 4 swimming championships by capturing 1st place in the 100-yard backstroke. SCA students participate with Bloomsburg School District for their swimming team.
Southern Columbia Elementary and Middle School students had a unique educational opportunity when the Mobile Ag Lab rolled onto campus this week. This traveling classroom offered a fun and interactive way to explore the world of agriculture, providing students with lessons that highlighted how farming and related industries can improve their daily lives. The Lab educated approximately 470 students this week. The Mobile Ag Lab, a fully equipped mobile classroom, is designed to bring agricultural education directly to students. The program, which is part of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, provided an engaging, hands-on learning experience that covered topics ranging from how glue is made from milk to water analysis. Experiments taught in the lab also included germinating seeds under different conditions, creating crayons from soybeans, and testing the water capacity of different soils. High School FFA members helped with set-up, clean-up, supervision, and student assistance for the sessions. 🐄🌽
Congratulations to SCA High School Students Grayson Reck, Anna Yancoskie, and Audry Reuter on their recent success at the PIAA District 4 Swimming Championship. Grayson was the 200 Yard Freestyle Champion and Anna and Audry were members of the 2nd Place 200 Yard Freestyle Relay Team. SCA students participate with Bloomsburg School District for their swimming team.

The Southern Columbia Boys Basketball team kicked off their playoff journey with an impressive win over Mifflinburg last week. Despite a setback in their second playoff contest, they remain determined and focused. This Saturday, they have an exciting opportunity to secure a spot in the state playoffs with a victory. The boys will play NP Mansfield on Saturday, March 1, at Loyalsock HS in the District IV 3rd place game. Tipoff is set for 4:00pm. Let's cheer them on to victory! 🏀🎉

Mrs. Gaul's First Grade class enjoyed a story from a classmate to learn more about Heart Awareness during February's Heart Awareness Month.
Over the past two weeks, Mr. Kelchner's 8th Grade science students shared their knowledge with students from Mrs. Spotts' 3rd Grade science classes. Since the 3rd Graders have been learning about the moon, they visited Mr. Kelchner's 8th Grade classroom for a more in-depth study of the moon's cycle of phases. First, Mr. Kelchner used bright lights at the front of the classroom to represent the sun and provided each student with a Styrofoam model of the moon. He guided students through the cycle of phases as they used their models to watch the patterns of light change on the moon's surface. Since the 8th Graders learned about this topic in great detail, they made the perfect helpers to assist the 3rd Grade students. The 3rd Graders were given Oreo cookies and tasked with the challenge of scraping away the icing to create each of the eight phases of the moon. Then, they used their Styrofoam models to help them place the cookie phases in the correct order. If they got them all correct, they were awarded with new cookies that they could eat! 🌑🌒🌓

The CSO STEM Club recently made a trip to Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg for a hands-on tour of what happens behind the scenes at a hospital.
Students in Mrs. Becker's Accounting class played Accounting Monopoly today. Miss Joyce, the student teacher, had students document their transactions in a ledger as they proceeded through the game. Transactions like rental income, rental expenses, salary transactions when passing go, and revenue and expenses incurred from the Chance and Community Chest cards were recorded in an Excel spreadsheet ledger.

The Southern Columbia Area School District will be operating on a 2-hour delay tomorrow, Friday,February 21st.
Southern Columbia High School kicked off a thrilling morning with a special Shark Tank-themed assembly, featuring Jared Ebersole, a 2019 alumnus, who shared his remarkable experience of appearing on the popular TV show Shark Tank.
Ebersole, now a successful entrepreneur, captivated students with his inspiring story of perseverance, creativity, and self-confidence. He recounted his journey from high school, where he first became interested in business, to presenting his product to a panel of seasoned investors.
Students were eager to hear firsthand how Jared navigated the competitive world of business and were given the opportunity to ask questions about the fascinating process, with Elementary Gifted students also having the chance to engage with him after the high school presentation, leaving them inspired by his journey. Ebersole made sure to emphasize the importance of pursuing one’s passion, taking risks, and never giving up.
The assembly was an exciting opportunity for students to gain insight into entrepreneurship and the world of startups, leaving them motivated to chase their own dreams with determination.

The Elementary School got into the Valentine's Day spirit last Friday with a day packed full of exciting activities that brought joy to both students and teachers alike. In preparation for the holiday, students designed and decorated Valentine bags and boxes, showcasing their creativity as they eagerly anticipated the exchange of cards and treats. The festivities continued as some classrooms cozied up with movies. Meanwhile, other classes shared delicious snacks, further adding to the fun. Both students and teachers had a blast. 💌
