Mrs. Hower's Third Grade class worked collaboratively to create igloos to shelter animals in the arctic. They used marshmallows (blocks of ice) and toothpicks (wooden beams) to protect their animals from the arctic breeze (hairdryer). ❄️🌨️💨

Recently, 8th graders participated in an engineering challenge in Science class where they were tasked with building a prototype of a rubber band powered Mars rover. Then they applied the engineering process (design --> revise --> perfect) to identify weaknesses in the basic prototype and make design changes that would improve its performance. They were restricted to certain materials and had to stay within design constraints that limited their rovers to no more than 12 inches in any dimension and no more than 75 grams. After reengineering their vehicles, they competed to see which team's rover could travel the furthest across our simulated rugged Mars terrain.
