The Southern Columbia E-sports team will face off against Danville Area on Thursday, February 9, at 6:00. The match will be streamed on the Danville Area School District YouTube channel. The Tigers currently sit atop the Central Susquehanna E-sports League standings with a 3-0 record and face a tough road matchup against the Ironmen. The following students were chosen by Fifth Grade Staff at Southern Columbia Middle School as January SoCo Stars of the Month. These students were chosen because they have displayed self-control, tolerance, academic integrity, and resilience within the school setting. Congratulations to each student and their families!

Levi Heller is the Science Student of the Month. He is a dedicated, hardworking student. He completes all his assignments, assessments, and activities at a high level and in a timely manner. He is respectful to, and respected among, his peers and teachers alike. Levi comes to science class each morning ready to learn with a smile on his face.
Zavier Swank is the Geography Student of the Month. He has worked hard all year in class and has the grades to prove it. Beyond academic performance, his maturity, kindness to others, and his sense of humor are much appreciated. He has great leadership potential and is extremely respectful. He also does an outstanding job of balancing high academic performance with his extra-curricular activities.
Becca Kauffman is the ELA Student of the Month. Becca is a hard-working student who never lets a challenge stand in her way. She is responsible, committed to achieving success, and she is an overall kind and considerate individual. She works well with others and helps her peers in any way she can.
Madden Mayernick is the Math Student of the Month. Madden is a hard-working student who cares about her performance! She is always polite and respectful in class. She is always willing to help others and demonstrates many leadership qualities. Her attitude and work ethic are commendable.


Mrs. Gaul's class was visited today by Schmagel, the cat who acted in the movie "A Man Called Otto." The class was very excited to be able to interact with, ask questions and watch Schmagel do some of the tricks he performed in the movie.

First grade students participated in the February Kindness Challenge. They wrote positive messages on the playground with chalk to help spread kindness in the elementary school!

Family and Consumer Science students in the Cooking on Your Own class recently learned about the changes that occur to vegetables when they are cooked. To further investigate the effect heat has on vegetables, students prepared a tasty vegetable stir fry.

Southern Columbia's Staff Spotlight for the first week in February is Mrs. Schwalm. Hats off to Mrs. Schwalm for always jumping in to help out whenever she is asked and with a smile on her face - we appreciate you!


Students in Mrs. Higgins' class worked on their math skills today while making brownies. They learned to measure ingredients, double a recipe, and divide mixtures. They enjoyed this delicious snack after they were done baking!





Macy Troup from Mr. Hauer's Kindergarten class and Michael Jones from Mrs. Rodgriguez's Kindergarten class were the first recipients of Ms. Holtzman's "Top Musicians of the Week" honor. These students showed Ms. Holtzman that they could use their listening ears, they followed all class rules, and actively participated in class!



When freshman basketball player Michaela Williams played the National Anthem on her violin before a January 19 game, she had no idea that her performance would go viral by the next morning. Middle school science teacher Mr. Roth gave a presentation to Ms. Merook's 2nd grade class about owls, as the students recently did an art project on snowy owls.



The After-School Program begins today for students who registered by the January due date. Students riding the bus received a call today with a drop off location and time. Pick-ups will take place in the regular pick-up locations.

3rd and 4th grade students who achieved 25 AR points or more were recently able to visit "Cafe Read A Latte." They were treated to a made-to-order hot chocolate and a donut while enjoying the atmosphere of our own cafe. Shout out to Mr. Roughton for creating the donut board for us!





SCA Bocce Ball Team players received their varsity letters before today's match! Congratulations!
