G.C. Hartman Elementary Center recently announced Fourth Grade Students of the Month for March. From left are, Jason Young, Amelia Dewald, Shilow Welkom, and Reina Lee. Students are selected based on character, leadership, academic performance and positive behavior.

The HS/MS cafeteria offers à la carte options including chips, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, fresh baked sugar cookies, fruit snacks, uncrustables, chocolate chip muffins, beef jerky, and fruit roll ups. Stop by daily.
Students are reminded that complete breakfast and lunch meals are free daily through June 2022. The April menu is available at https://5il.co/17znx

This week the G. C. Hartman Elementary school has been collecting boxes of cereal for the cereal drive. These boxes will go to both the Catawissa and Elysburg food pantries. The goal for this year is to donate as many or more as last year. The drive ends April 12th and already over 100 boxes have been collected.

The lunch today was roast turkey, homemade stuffing (elementary students enjoyed mashed potatoes), homemade gravy, corn, fruit, a buttered dinner roll, and a milk.
The second picture is the HS/MS stuffing being prepared.
Thank you to all students and staff who chose school lunch today. Please remember, full breakfasts and lunches for students are free daily until June 2022.

Miss Winter, who is currently student teaching in Ms. Habowski's 2nd-grade class, is doing a math unit on geometry. She did an interactive lesson where the students used clay to build 3-dimensional shapes. She then used the shapes built by the students to teach them about faces and vertices of each 3-D shape.

The sixth-grade students gathered in the hallway for a celebration announcing the students of the month. They listened to music and gave a drum roll for their fellow classmates. Congratulations to the four winners: Morgan Laughlin, Karley McHale, Yanqiu Chen, and Noah Wydra!

Check out a few of the many works of art produced by our Senior Studio artists.

Learning to read in Kindergarten and LOVING it!!!

Wendy, Jess, and the food service team prepared eggs for the HS students. They are so colorful—Enjoy!

8th Grade students within Mr. Williams' afternoon S.T.E.M. classes learned firsthand the effects of Gravity, Inertia, and Weight while welcoming in the season of Spring. Students were tasked with creating a contraption that to protect their Spring Chicken (an egg) from three, increasingly taller launch points. Led and organized by student teacher Mr. Lepovetsky, students used the scientific method of research and higher-level engineering strategies to design and build protections devices that could withstand the impact created by gravity and safely protect their Spring Chicken until they have made their safe landing. While braving the weather elements and testing their devices in front of the middle school and off the football stadium bleachers, students successfully “cracked” the code on the effects of gravity and safely grounded their Spring Chickens without any scrambled results.

Dear Parents,
Please review the attached images for information and guidelines for our upcoming PSSA Testing.

Just a reminder that PSSA testing will take place soon. ELA is April 26-28; Math is May 3 & 4; Science is May 5 & 6. Students in grades 3-8 take ELA and Math. Students in grades 4 & 8 take Science. You should have received parent information via School Messenger.

Mrs. Spotts' Third Grade class spent the day learning perimeter and area, with a twist. Students used Cheez Its to create perimeter and area models and they got to enjoy them as a snack after learning!

Updated SoCo ESports team picture…credit goes to Alex Morrison!

SCA has an ESports Rocket League team. This amazing team won all 12 games against Danville in last night’s scrimmage! Congrats!

This week in Mr. Rarig’s 8th grade Advanced STEM class, students constructed dowel rod towers to hold weight. Later in the week, they made a trip to the weight room to test how much weight their tower could support.

2022-23 Kindergarten Registration is open. Parents/Guardians can go to https://www.scasd.us/page/student-registration-process to start the process.

Eighth grade students have been taking part in a six-week-long STEM project in Science class where they collaborate in teams to design sustainable, energy-efficient buildings. Each team has a $20 million budget and must decide on the best ways to meet the desired goals of the potential building owner. Along the way, they perform a variety of experiments to learn about renewable resources and sustainable construction practices. The experiments include exploring the benefits of a green roof system, studying how wind flows around buildings of various shapes, measuring how sunlight reflects off various buildings and onto the surrounding highways, testing how the position of a solar panel affects its ability to generate electricity, and investigating how blade angle affects the efficiency of a wind turbine. Once the design process and exploration are completed, students will create deliverable items to showcase their building designs. These items include a blueprint, a scale model, a site plan of the property, and a breakdown of energy and water costs and savings. Each team will use these items to "pitch" their designs to a panel of real engineers who will join us as judges. In the end, one design team will be chosen by the engineers as the winning company.
